Behind the Name

“Making your media flourish” – at Media Sprout I hope to plant a seed with every project. A seed is the beginning. Once a seed sprouts it grows, and once it grows it begins to spred into something beyond itself. I hope to enable you to plant the seed of your ministry, non-profit, or small business through the use of the web and video, so that it can flourish.

Beyond just giving you a web or video presence I aspire to use my experience in media, through this blog, to share useful tips and tricks related to video, web design, photography, and any other tech stuff I find interesting. I hope that my blog can be a resource, not only for the web or video guy, but for anyone who loves technology and wants to learn more.

Brandon’s Story…

I wasn’t your average kid, I grew up in the Sierras in California at Christian Camp called Hume Lake. So… yes, I really went to school walking through the snow up hills both ways, I really snowboarded out my back yard in the winter, and I really lived at summer camp year-round… cool way to grow up if you ask me… ;-)

Hume Lake found itself on the cutting edge of the ministry and non-profit media industry, producing some of the funniest short films, traveling internationally doing camps and video, and producing some of the coolest live productions of any summer camp in the world – and that’s where I come in, not as “the guy” making “all” of the crazy awesome videos… but you would find me tinkering in the audio control room or spending my afternoons in the video room learning from the real technical geniuses at Hume.

Anyways, that’s where I got my start in media… countless awesome hours of my free time hanging with these guys, learning the makings of video, sound, and web design. And once I knew enough, I got to be fully involved in those productions. The web guys gave me the inspiration to make my first HTML website and even taught me my first lines of CSS. I got to be apart of Hume’s media department for about 8 years including 4 summers while I was in college! (Shout out to Ryan Wissink, Todd Watson, Brian Downs, Nate Sees, Jason Lackey and Kyle White, you guys rock!)

On that note… college. Now, if you know me, you’d know that school is not my favorite thing – in truth, I’d rather be hanging out with my wife, making a website or shooting a video. But, when I found out that I could actually go to college for Cinema and Media Arts I changed my mind about the whole “school” thing! Biola’s Cinema Media Arts program is where it was at and from there I later graduated with a degree in the one profession I truly love.

During my time in college I launched a side company called Better Productions offering services in live sound, video, and web design. It pretty much opened the door through my college years to buy cool cameras and nice computers, travel internationally on missions trips and go to the movies on the weekends…. and it even opened the door for a full-time position doing web design and video for Biola, where I’m currently employed now.

So here we are today with Media Sprout! My passion for ministry and small business stems from my time at Hume and Biola, not only growing my knowledge of media arts, but growing my relationship with Christ. I believe that God gives each of us a gift and it is our responsibility to use that gift to the best of our ability – to truly be who we are meant to be in Christ. I believe my gift is in media arts and I desire to empower others to take their gifts, businesses, ministries, and non-profits to the highest possible level through the use of the web and video.

So if you’re looking for a web / video / fun guy that you know is hard working and passionate about what I do then give me a call! I can’t wait to be apart of your project!
